GRATEFUL DEAD 60TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION BY THE AMPAL CREATIVE
We were honored to work with the Grateful Dead on an official collection celebrating their 60th anniversary. We wanted to create timeless product, inspired by decades of hitting the road, on a journey to see the Grateful Dead. We worked with mostly 70s era imagery to create hats & T's, that look like they could be the ultimate NOS vintage score from that era.
For the first time, the Grateful Dead artwork by Rick Griffin is officially being used. As a designer & big fan of RG, it was hard to mess w/ amazing historic designs, but ultimately we decided we wanted to make them our own, not just a vtg. reproduction. I took some of my favorites & gave them an Ampal take w/ the addition of the Bertha inspired roses. I was able to find an actual licensed Grateful Dead shirt from about 40 years ago, to reference in making the TOP HAT print perfect - 9 colors later weʼre really happy w/ how it turned out.
