When you think of the 1960s Los Angeles music scene, bands like The Byrds or The Doors often come to mind. However, at the same time an all too often neglected garage rock scene produced bands like The Seeds, The Standells, and The Electric Prunes. While some bands, like The Standells with Dirty Water, recieved crossover Billboard success, many others weren’t recognized until many years later. The garage scene spread across the Los Angeles area, inspiring kids to pick some instruments and emulate both American garage and the ever expanding British sound. Kids across Southern California were putting out 45s that only now are being celebrated via blogs like Garage Hangover. This mix is an introduction to the LA garage scene featuring a few obscure tracks but mainly focusing on the heavy hitters of 60 LA garage and possibly my favorite track of all time by UK garage icons The Troggs.
