A behind the scenes look at our “girls that intrigue us” lookbook shoot. We didn’t want to use models, but instead chose a few of our friends who are also involved in fashion. Mallyce, Michelle and Natalia have all developed their own unique style and also are involved on the ground level of clothes and fashion today. Michelle is the production manager for Pastelle, Ransom, and Diamond Supply Co.’s apparel. Natalia has her own jewelry line, n.om, which is killing it, and Mallyce designs and runs, the high end fashion line LAEKEN.

Do it because you love it…
1956 letter from MoMA to Andy Warhol:

Do something because you’re passionate about it: not for money or fame.

Legendary
Bunker Spreckels
I don’t think the movie ever got made, but Taschen did put out “Bunker Spreckels: Surfings Divine Prince of Decadence.” Described as -
“The wild, brief life of a surfing legend and international playboy
“The tale of Bunker Spreckels (1949–1977) reads like a pitch for a movie to rival Boogie Nights: the stepson of Clark Gable is a privileged Los Angeles party boy who is heir to a multimillion dollar fortune; passionate about surfing, martial arts, guns, and women, he lives the life of a debauched international jet-setter before succumbing to his excesses at the tender age of 27.
“Born Adolph B. Spreckels III, heir to the Spreckels sugar fortune, Bunker became a famous surfer as a teenager, but after his inheritance came along, he began to slip into a life of pomp and excess where surfing took a back seat to drugs, sex, and wild road trips. So remarkable was his lifestyle that he created an alter-ego who invited photographers and documentarists to trail him, piecing together a tell-all epic of his own rise to fame and fortune. Before the project, known as “The Player”, could be completed, Spreckels suddenly died of “natural causes.””
From master surf photographer Art Brewer and writer/photojournalist C.R. Stecyk III.

Rainy Daze
It’s raining for the first time this fall. Of course Angelenos are running around like headless chickens, with no knowledge of how to drive/survive in the not so torrential downpour. We’re a little bummed about the ensuing ocean pollution keeping us out of the first winter swell, but can’t wait for the brief crisp clean feeling in streets, that follows the rain. This afternoon I took a little zen moment, grabbed my book, poured a little whiskey rocks, and turned on Amplive’s Rainydayz Remixes – perfect rainy day tunes.
Enjoy… Sorry it seems they took the download link down, but you can still grab the torrent.

“After a cease & desist put the breaks on Amplive’s Radiohead In Rainbows remix project, the online music community reasonably wondered if the tracks would ever see the light of day. Well, here they are.
While the Oakland producer/DJ acknowledges that he probably should have contacted Radiohead (who were not involved in the project) to seek approval prior to making his interpretations publically available, an agreement has been reached between all involved parties and Amplive has been granted permission to release Rainydayz Remixes for free to the general public. Effective immediately, the eight-track record is available here.
Rainydayz Remixes is composed exclusively of source material pulled from In Rainbows, re-envisioned by Amplive and complimented by vocal work from Too $hort, MC Zumbi of Zion I, Chali2na of Jurassic 5, Codany Holiday, and Del The Funky Homosapien.”
Big ups to onesevensevensix.com for this great gift of music.
