My first association with the trench coat was my middle school latin teacher, Magister Stancell. He was a former Las Vegas investigative reporter in the 60′s, and regularly wore a Burberry trench. Unfortunately in high school, the school shooting incidents gave the coats a creepy “trench coat mafia” association. Over the last few years I have started to re-appreciate the trench coat for its classic design, equal parts form and function. Burberry, the house behind the trench, created this amazing example for Liberty of London in honor of the 25th anniversary of London fashion week. I love the tailored cut, the leather wrapped buckle on the collar detailing and the classic Burberry plaid reinterpreted in a subtle purple and back colorway. Even if you’re in London this friday when it’s released good luck finding one, as they’re an individually numbered run of 25.
Although, I loved the jacket, I wasn’t sure about posting it until I saw the Burberry Black Label A/W 09 collection (from a Popeye jp editorial spread.) Burberry is definitely killing it with the coats this season. Unfortunately, this is their Japan only collection and will probably be equally hard to get your hands on.
the sharpest a ginger’s ever looked?
